The Romulus Police Department was established in 1981 in response to the needs of the growing community; a community faced with many new challenges that require enforcement of state laws, local ordinances, and service to the community.

The Romulus Police Department, currently under the command of Chief Robert Dickerson, consists of a staff of 51 sworn Officers, 8 dispatchers and 6 civilian support staff that assist with the day to day administrative operations of the Police Department.
