Online Block Party Application

FEE: $25.00 non-refundable application fee

Residents of the City of Romulus may petition the City Council to close streets in the City for the purpose of holding block parties.

Completed Petitions must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office, in-person or by email - [email protected], by the Monday the week prior to the next scheduled City Council Meeting.

All streets must be barricaded at each end and closed to vehicular traffic. 

All streets must be reopened by 9 p.m. or dusk, whichever comes first, and the street is reopened to traffic.

BLOCK PARTY APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Fill out the online application (include a copy of your driver's license and event flyer or postcard).
  2. Print Block Party Petition Form
    1. Collect the signatures of at least 51% of property owners affected by the block party and/or street closure request.
  3. File Block Party Petition Form in the Clerk's Office and pay the $25.00 non-refundable application fee.
  4. Signatures of property owners are verified by the Assessor's Office.
  5. Upon verification of signatures, the Block Party Application will be forwarded to respective departments for approval and/or input.
  6. Upon approval of departments, the Block Party Application will be placed on the next City Council Agenda for Council's approval.
  7. The applicant will be notified of the Council meeting date. Appearance is necessary to provide details of the event to City Council.
  8. Upon Council's approval, visit the Clerk's Office to receive an event permit and contact DPW if barricades are requested.

    The circulator of the petition must gather at least 51% of the property owners affected by the block party/event.

    Before the request is submitted to Council for consideration, the City Clerk's Office will forward the request to respective departments for approval and input.

  10. Electronic Signature Agreement*

    A non-refundable $25.00 block party application fee must be submitted to the Clerk's Office upon the filing of the Block Party Petition.

    By checking the "I agree" box below, you agree and acknowledge that 1) your application will not be signed in the sense of a traditional paper document, 2) by signing in this alternate manner, you authorize your electronic signature to be valid and binding upon you to the same force and effect as a handwritten signature, and 3) you may still be required to provide a traditional signature at a later date.

    You also acknowledge that the residents/participants will be responsible for disposing of all trash & debris, and the requested block party is subject to the City's Noise Ordinance, Chapter 36, Section 36-162.

    Please note: This application will advance to the next stage of the process when the Block Party Petition, containing signatures of at least 51% of the property owners affected by the block party/event, has been filed with the City Clerk's Office and the $25.00 application fee is paid.
